Tandem Stance: Try It!

Last updated on June 11, 2019 By PhysioDC Leave a Comment

Do we ever give any thought about “balance” as we age? Given that upwards of one-third of individuals over the age of sixty-five will have a fall in any given year, it may be a good idea to be proactive about doing some balance training.

Let’s use tandem stance as a great example of an exercise that can be done in almost any setting. From the video below we can see that this exercise looks relatively simple, but I was shocked to discover just how difficult it was for me to maintain my balance for more than a few seconds.

A word of caution! Make sure that your doctor has given you permission to try tandem stance as an exercise, and as the video emphasizes, have a chair or other object to grab if need be!
