The Smithsonian Sculpture Garden ice rink is beautiful to behold and has a very mellow ambiance. While there were lots of little kids (as there should be!), there were no hockey moms or failed figure skating coaches. Thus, the kids were just being their silly selves, polite, goofy, and even somewhat aware of their surroundings (unlike people on the metro).
As to the ice … It had more holes than a prairie dog town and the traction of quicksand. Each leg felt like it was pulling a tire. I guess in a former life I was not a moose.
Still, I’m glad I went. How many places on the planet can you step out during lunch and enjoy the Tidal Basin, the Mall, museums – and an ice rink?!
Here’s to the holidays and discovering your Inner Reindeer!
